120 Years of Renault – Renault 12 (1969)
Going to replace the Renault 8 and 10, the 12 model continues the mission that was tending to merge together reduced dimensions, increased comfort and the possibility of being used on a daily basis. Furthermore, the Renault 12 was produced in many Countries, as well as France, and this facilitated the international sales process. Introduced in 1969 with the only option of the 68-hp 1.3cc enginefor both for the L and TL versions, in 1971 it also wore the sporty colors of Gordini, increasing the size of the engine to 1,600, and then also welcoming the intermediate TS.
Focusing on comfort, such as the seats with built-in headrests, and a wide choice of colors, the Renault 12 was a great success, especially responding to the demands of a larger clientele than usual. Between 1970 and the beginning of the ’80s more than 4 million were produced.
