Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA | News
Alfa Romeo starts its celebrations for the 110th anniversary by launching two crazy variants of the already incredible Giulia Quadrifoglio. Say hello to the Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm.
GTA, which means Gran Turismo Alleggerita (lightened grand tourer, ed). The correct translation would however be “Forbidden to the faint of heart”. On the occasion of the brand’s 110th anniversary, Arese’s biscione dusts off the GTA badge after over 15 years of vacancy and put it on its extraordinary Giulia. Only 500 units available in the two variants GTA and GTAm, both track-ready weapons regularly usable on everyday roads.
The GTAm is the more extreme of the two, it maintains four doors but distorts the elegant lines of the Italian sedan with an aerodynamic kit that seems borrowed from that world of racing where in the past days Alfa Romeo built a huge part of its exceptional heritage. This comes with active splitter at the front, huge spoiler at the rear, two seats only and a roll bar instead of the rear ones. Less weight thanks to the removal of the door panels, where the roof, bonnet, wheel arches, bumpers and rear diffuser are also made of carbon fiber, for a final saving of about 100 kg compared to the Quadrifoglio and an overall weight that stops the scale at 1,520 kg.
The GTA, on the other hand, is a bit more civilized, with four seats and an aerodynamic carbon kit however more suitable for tackling traffic on your way home from work. The 2.9cc biturbo V6 delivers 540 hp and is combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission capable of offering a 0-100 of just 3.6 seconds. There is a new exhaust system, an Akrapovic titanium masterpiece, while Sauber Engineering is the architect of the aerodynamic kit that offers active pieces of wizardry. Finally, 20” monoblock wheels and various bits reminding the brand’s glorious motorsport past spread all over its luxurious panels.
