McLaren GT: When The Supercars World Meets The Grand Touring Experience
No more teasers, the McLaren GT has arrived and sets itself the ambitious goal of opening a real way capable of satisfying the desires and needs of every true driving enthusiast. By sharing its DNA with the stratospheric Speedtail, the brand new model – simply called GT – will have a more traditional layout and therefore two seats, but despite intending to be your next grand tourer, it does not abandon the mid-rear engine position, a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of delivering 620 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 630 Nm of torque between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm.
No doubt about its performance, what is surprising is the ability to adapt to long distances, with a cabin equipped with every comfort, but also with a larger load compartment, both at the front and above the engine (just like the 570 GT), where we have a glass door that allows extra luggage to be placed on top of a carbon fiber structure. In total, the load capacity reaches 570 liters, like a medium-sized station wagon.
Do not be fooled by the sly nature of the reworked V8, derived from those we already know well and used for Woking’s other models, since although it is more domesticated for city use, it is able to push the GT from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.2 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 326 per hour. Then there is a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the three usual driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Track) and on-board electronics that allow you to adapt the set-up in real time. For the first time we have 21-inch rear rims (20” at the front), which fit special Pirelli P Zero tires and hide powerful brakes, also available as carbon-ceramic, on request.
Prices start at around € 203,000, but even before seeing it in the flesh, the GT seems to respond positively to a desire that driving enthusiasts seemed to have removed from their most optimistic expectations. McLaren want their customers not to settle. They created the GT to allow performance nuts to enjoy the pleasure of traveling and vice versa, to offer an unforgettable journey to those who will constantly drive in Sport or Track mode.
