Soul Mate
“Me and my MX-5 are meant to be together”: that’s how Marco begins presenting his little spider almond-eyed. Specifically, we’re talking about the very first series of Mazda MX-5, the one that aficionados of the best-selling roadster in the world identified as “NA”. It all started from this model: a proper spider, technically good, light and above all, fun to drive. Marco’s Mazda has a 115-hp 1.6 engine and comes from 1993: this very number conceals a coincidence that perhaps is not a case! The MX-5 was registered on April 19, 1993, while her owner was born on April 20, 1993, just a day after: a simple coincidence?? According to Marco, the answer is equally obvious: “No, it can’t be as simple, that’s indeed another proof that that very red MX-5 had to be mine!” Ever since Marco found her in a barn, abandoned by her previous owner, it was love at first sight and after countless treatments to get her back to the former glory, this is how she is today. Marco is enthusiastic and seems an endless river of words while listing the numerous works done to make his beloved spider always more and more beautiful and efficient: he completely repainted the body, but with the original color, restored the engine keeping it in perfect working order, then replaced the original 14” rims with a set of 15″ and he also slightly revised the exhaust, which is now more attractive but not exaggerated. The air filter has been replaced too, with the adoption of a red cone filter and last but not least, a Momo racing steering wheel. Thanks to the passion for his MX-5, what once was a spider left and abandoned, is now back to a new life, shining as ever and receiving ASI registration for vehicles of historic interest. Marco just loves his car. So, we ask him why he chose a Mazda MX-5: “I understood that this was the right car for me because it’s fun, agile, quick, pretty and in my possibilities!” Need to say more?
