The eye of a collector always seeks a valuable piece, possibly in a limited edition and of secure future value. Then there are the more eccentric ones, that certainly does not make their treasures to collect dust in some garage or museum, but rather put them under pressure, also to see if the overprized factor above the standard model is deserved or just a clever marketing move. Lamborghini, in this regard, knows what we’re talking ‘bout (take for example the controversial and recently Centenario), when produced the 150 units of the Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale, the best performing road variant of the most extreme Gallardo ever produced and coming straight from the Blancpain racing Series.
Reciting some technical aspects, the Super Trofeo Stradale has the same 570hp V10 powering both axles with a maximum torque of 540Nm available at 6500 rpm – then thanks to spoiler and aerodynamic in carbon fiber and composite, without forgetting the fast release engine cover (just like the racing car) the weight was kept on the threshold of 1340kg and the robotized six-speed gearbox allows mind-bending performance. Among the friends I have in my contacts I “show off” as many as 4 people who have put one in their garages, but no one is like “Mr. V” as far as making a good use of it (perhaps too much) and has done the beauty of 45.000km since he bought it new. The way he has done that is the reason why I decided that his contribution would not have missed my column. Finding him sideways, despite the fantastic traction of the chassis is standard thing, watching him speeding at 300 kph on the fastest tracks of our region too. Over the years he has been able to hone his driving skills with many courses and few cars manage to convey as much security and push him so close to his limits, like this Super Trofeo. “When I return to the pits, I leave the engine running for a while and I start turning around the car, that hum and the warmth that the engine compartment emanates are the breath of the Devil”.
