TROLLSTIGEN
Named the Troll’s Path as it resembles a steep stairway to a giant cave hanging on a rock wall just facing the Fjords region in northern Norway, this is undoubtedly one of the most scenic route you could possibly find. It also features an inclination value of 10% and eleven switchbacks one immediately after the other, thus creating a unique view on the whole area.
Location: from Rauma to Sylte (Norway)
Elevation: 850m
Type: mountain road
The road and the same bends are pretty narrow so you have to drive carefully, also because it is common to face adverse weather conditions. The route is open from late May to October, also depending on how hard the winter season is and once here you can also dedicate a moment for admiring the wonderful Stigfossen waterfall running for more than 300 meters down the side of the mountain. Make sure to come here with a car that handles well, in order to not just enjoy the scenery, but also take advantage of the demanding hairpin bends probably built by giant trolls with a refined taste for driving thrills.
