VW Golf GTI: Celebrations Begin With The Clubsport
1976-2016: exactly 40 years of Golf GTI, 40 years of a new way of living a car suitable for your everyday’s routine, but that makes you also willing to drive for the sake of fun. And of course, VW wants to pay homage to one of their best creation, beginning with the new GTI Clubsport, a more powerful and refined Golf GTI that hides more than a few details. Let’s find out.
First, the engine, the 2.0cc dispenses, in this version, 265hp, which become 290 for about 10 seconds while over-boosting. Here’s how the Clubsport is therefore the first GTI to burn the 0-100 in just 5.9 seconds (with DSG), while top speed is unchanged between manual and the dual clutched version at 250 per hour. On the exterior there are many details that refine the aerodynamics, providing a better handling and an optimization of fuel consumption, and overall, giving a bit of twist to the seventh generation of Golf, just like the new 19” “Bresica” wheels created specifically for this model, or the more pronounced air vents and spoilers.
(On December’s issue of ACM we also start the celebration of the legendary Golf GTI, and through the incoming year we will dedicate a bunch of special articles to all the models that have made this apparently quiet car, such a big phenomenon)
