120 Years Of Renault: A Journey Through Its Most Important Models
I recently went to Paris, not for a romantic weekend, but to celebrate something equally sentimental. A birthday, the 120th anniversary of Renault, which for the occasion organized a very special party, by providing, to a small group of journalists coming from all over Europe, a series of vehicles that have marked its history – models from the early 30s, to the most recent R5 and Espace. I got on board the miniscule 4CV and fight with timid climbs that put in difficulty the small engine and made it necessary to tinker with the 3-speed gearbox, I stalled at least a couple of times the Frégate Domaine and jumped on a fantastic red Estafette.
All of this, before reaching Flins, one of the most important operational and production sites of the French company, where in addition to being given a ride on board a prewar model, I had to rub my eyes in front of a “small” part of the private collection of Renault, composed of over 700 models. The 90 exhibited and admired after lunch were the ideal journey along the glorious history of the brand, told by the words of those who knew how to transmit certain special emotions of the past, those that led Renault to be an exceptional reality even today.
We at Auto Class have decided, in addition to the complete article that you will read on May issue, to dedicate 12 special episodes, touching some of the most representative specimens of the brand’s history. Do not miss the first episode, starting next month.
