120 Years of Renault – Renault 4CV (1944)
The Second World War was in full development and although Renault was obligatorily committed in the production of war vehicles, the thought turned to what would have been necessary once the war was over. The 4CV would have represented a turning point for the French brand, it would have been able to meet the needs of the post-war situation, contributing to the rebirth of the Country and the same Company, using a completely new recipe and devoted to the practicality and optimization of costs.
The success that the 4CV collected during its years of production estimated around 1 million and 100 thousand units built and widely distributed thanks to the small body of the car with a weight that did not exceeded 500kg. The engine, mounted at the back for comfort and technical reasons, was a 760cc 17hp in-line 4-cylinder, which coupled to a 4-speed gearbox was able to push the little French up to 80 kph. Despite its small size, the 4CV was able to accommodate four people on board and thanks to its characteristics it was one of the ideal choices to power the Country after the war.
