120 Years of Renault – Renault Avantime (1999)
After having introduced the Espace MPV on everyday roads, at the end of the 90s, Renault is again ready to innovate and make available to everyone a futuristic design and plenty of on board comfort until then prerogative of cars with far more challenging price. Thus the Avantime entered the game, a sort of “hybrid” between an MPV, a sedan and a coupe, all thanks to a unique design enhanced by only two doors and the lack of the central pillar. The angular lines of the concept and of the model that then enters production are the starting point on which its other models were further developed.
The Avantime lived a short but intense existence and in 2003 came out of production, but despite this, it left a deep mark on the automotive scene, not just for Renault. Equally ambitious in its engine compartment, it features a 3-liter V6 with 250 horses, front-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission. Once again the French brand has been able to demonstrate its value by innovating a segment and giving way to a whole new way of understanding a car meant for everyday use.
