2018’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Last Of Its Kind
Never as in this period Porsche knows perfectly what its customers expect. Just ahead of major revels and the imminent coming of the new generation of 911, called 992, here come out (more or less voluntarily) the first images of the 2018 911 GT3 RS, codenamed 991.2 GT3 RS – the only one that at the moment was missing the .2 version.
What makes the news is above all the fact that it could represent the end of the naturally aspirated engines for Porsche, since starting from the next generation, the whole range – including the GT series – could be equipped with twin-turbo pots. But returning to the GT3 RS, which we will see more in detail soon, we find a further elaborate aerodynamics, with a new front and rear bumper, a front bonnet equipped with NACA style air intakes and 20-inch rims at front and 21 inches at the rear. It will be possible to spec it with the Clubsport package which includes six-point belts, a fire extinguisher and an aluminum roll cage. Even the engine undergoes an increase in power, we’re talking about 20 horsepower (520 instead of 500), with the 4-liter 6-cylinder that will only be able to be mated to a 7-speed PDK gearbox. This is enough to be the road legal Porsche with the most powerful naturally aspirated engine produced so far and going from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.2 seconds.
