4 latas | Cinema
When Tocho and Jean-Pierre learn that their old friend Joseba is approaching to his final moment, they decide to leave Spain for Mali. The latter’s daughter accompanied them. Thus begins a journey that embodies the spirit of adventure that the protagonists have shared throughout their lives, facing the desolate and unforgivable African desert and risking death due to the numerous dangers that lurk hidden among the scorching sand dunes. 4 latas, also known as R4, is an exciting road movie, but also funny and capable of empathizing with the protagonists right from the beginning. The calm character of Jean-Pierre (Jean Reno) contrasts perfectly with the roughness of Tocho (exceptional performance by Hovik Keuchkerian) and both often find themselves understanding how the young Ely (Susana Abaitua) lives the most important adventure of her life.

GENRE: comedy, adventure
The Renault 4 is the other undisputed protagonist, chosen because it was bought (or perhaps stolen) by Joseba and kept by his daughter for many years, until the fateful moment comes to return to where the three friends used to take the reliable Renault 4s and then resell them in Africa and earn enough money to come back home. Actually, what drove them on this long journey was none other than the spirit of adventure and the desire to be together and feel free in a land as boundless as the African desert. The R4, specially prepared in Paris-Dakar style, is the indispensable constant that makes travel the only way to feel Africa and experience the same emotions that enriched the lives of a group of friends in a journey of a lifetime. A must see and unfairly underrated movie.
