5 Things I Love About the Alfa Romeo 4C @thespeedbusters
In just over a week, on February’s issue of Auto Class Magazine, you will see me handling the Alfa Romeo 4C, one of the most deserving sports cars of recent years. A few would have bet on the quality of a project as ambitious as unexpected, but after having tested it several times and having dedicated ten days, spent almost always at the wheel, I can say that I understood what the 4C really wants to represent for cars enthusiast and especially for fans of pure driving. I do not mean to spoil the surprise (the review will be peppered with photos nothing short of stratospheric), but I still want to anticipate certain aspects of this small Italian coupe. Here are 5 things I love about the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe: (details and the 5 I do not like, await you in the full article)
1. It’s beautiful like a Ferrari but cost a quarter of it: its lines are damn sexy for every millimeter of its entire body. I’m not a fan of the recent Alfa’s style and I’m not ashamed to say that I do not like the 8C. In this case, the student surpasses the master, with clean and homogeneous lines. A real baby supercar.
2. Operating costs are minimal: the advantage of having a car that weighs less than a ton and is powered by a turbocharged 1.750 engine are those of insurance, duty and petrol costs, very similar to those of your cousin’s Golf diesel. But the similarities between the two end here.
3. A racing breed: no power steering, noisy cabin, seats with very few adjustments and pedals as heavy as marble blocks. For many may be a flaw, but these are actually a tribute to the racing heritage of a brand that in its glorious (and unfortunately far) past, raced and won a lot.
4. The sound: probably the noisier 4-cylinder ever heard. Window down and radio off: just do it.
5. Push yourself beyond your limits: the grip is exceptional and looking for oversteer requires space and a clear mind. With a simple sporty driving it may almost seem prone to understeer, but this is the dual nature of the 4C. Before it give you the maximum, it wants to make sure that you are able to know how to handle. At that point, you will be responsible for all your actions.
