A day at the office
ACM – BEHIND THE SCENES
With a warm greeting, I welcome all of those who will follow my new column titled “Behind the scenes”. Not being a director and not having made a movie, we will not talk about deleted scenes or parts excluded from the film, but of what is happening around the best job in the world: being pilot test driver and monthly columnist for the supercar magazine that only talk about cars that count: Auto Class Magazine. I’ll take you anywhere: on track, on exciting roads, driving incredible cars and also more affordable ones, but always with the sincerity and the passion of a person who does the job he loves.
In our first episode, I decided to talk about the most simple and logical aspect that surrounds any work, you can call it the headquarter, the base, or more simply, the office. ACM does not have a single office, but thanks to our collaborators, we like to know that we have different points of support; our main base are in Monaco and Milan, where we can find a warm and comfortable operating point, where to make report of the day, meeting, planning, write the first impressions before bringing the rest of the work at home, or why not, stay up late and type with our computer the articles you read on our pages. Personally, I find working late at night, truly evocative and I like to look out of the windows, watching the lights of cars and homes, listening to the different sounds of the night, much less chaotic than during the day. You feel more quiet, with time marked by your own pace and not those of a clock or a phone that rings constantly. I must admit, however, that the best “office” ever, remains the one where we really do our job: at the wheel of a car. Before starting to take my first steps in this environment, I had, as any fool, the belief that for having serious fun, I’d need tons of horses and million Euro’s car at all costs, but over time I realized that it is also in simpler cars and especially in models that have history, miles and decades on their shoulders, that you live the most beautiful and permanent emotions. Now, arrived at the beginning of the third year of ACM, we drove many different cars and each has represented, in their own way, an important element for the growth of each of us. We met great people and heard wonderful stories and the fact that every day, waking up in the morning and going to the office, will represents a new beginning, a new path, is something indescribable.
By the way, it’s obvious, if you know you’re in for a McLaren, you can also get to the office, without having your morning coffee.
