Just Another RS Under The Xmas Tree
After having updated the A5 and the powerful but sensible S5, it is now time for the most performance-oriented step of the same model, welcoming the new RS5 Coupe and Sportback. For both there are targeted retouches that update its look, leaving the beating heart unchanged, that 2.9 V6 TFSI ready to deliver 450 hp and 600 Nm of torque on the two axles through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Aesthetically we find the logical stylistic argument undertaken with the RS6 and RS7 sisters, more evident in the air intakes, side skirts and rear diffuser that incorporates the two oval tailpipes. There are new alloy wheels, 19″ as standard – 20″ on request – with the usual possibility to opt for carbon-ceramic brakes.
As for the passenger compartment, Audi does not intend to give up the leadership position achieved in recent years and introduces the new 10.1″ touch screen, located horizontally to soar above the dashboard. On the central tunnel we then have a gears selector with more generous dimensions and a decidedly sporty look. On the steering wheel, upholstered in Alcantara, we find the RS1 and RS2 buttons (introduced with the RS6 and RS7), useful as shortcuts for 2 pre-set driving settings and the g’box paddles, finally bigger in size and made of aluminum.
Performance worthy of a real supercar, like 3.9 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 kph and a top speed of 280 per hour, once the electronic limiter is excluded. Finally you can choose to have RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) with adjustments between three different modes. The RS5 will arrive at the beginning of 2020, both in Coupe and Sportback 5-door versions, with prices starting at € 83,500.
