BMW M8 and M8 Competition: Ultimate Grand Tourer, Coupe or Cabrio
The 8 Series has been a great starter, but BMW removed the veils from the M8, the long-awaited grand tourer that is already a real obsession at our office. Available both as a coupe and cabrio with canvas roof, the M8 is ready to satisfy even the most demanding drivers, offering a “standard” version and the fiercest Competition. Both are obviously equipped with the well-known 4.4 V8 engine, a twin turbo that delivers 600 horsepower on the normal one, while on the Competition reaches 625 hp and 750 Nm, climbing up to 7,200 rpm, a phenomenal result for a turbocharged engine.
There is a lot of weight (about 2 tons), but there is also a lot of electronics, useful for sharpening the behavior of the big German coupe and making it comfortable over long distances and while driving in relax, but perfectly sharp and reactive when you intend to focus your attention on the work performed by the M Performance department. All-wheel drive as for the M5, thanks to the xDrive system that allows the driver to choose whether to unload the power only through the rear axle, or share it with the front axle, also thanks to 5 different driving modes. 3.3 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph (3.2 for the Competition) and a top speed limited to 250 per hour, with the option to remove the electronic limiter and thus reach 305 kph, everything while keeping intact the elegance of the 8 Series from which it takes shape and not yelling around that you might be able to disintegrate any supercar without much effort.
