BMW X3M / X4M: Sharp Claws
BMW X3M / X4M
Sharp Claws
We’ll not turn around it and for once we go immediately straight to the point, to those fateful numbers that are able to magnetize the attention. 510 horses and a twin-turbo of over 600Nm of torque. BMW presents the X3M and X4M, the traditional and coupe SUVs that sit halfway between the smaller X1/X2 and the larger X5/X6. For the first time, BMW’s performance department gets its hands on two models that, in terms of their ability to combine practicality and driving pleasure, have a lot to say.
To be precise, we do not only have two models that differ mainly in their design solutions that make the X3M more prone to those who can’t give up a few extra liter in the trunk, because both the X3M and the X4M share a “standard” model equipped with the same 3-liter 6 cylinder M TwinPower Turbo grounding 480hp and 600Nm of torque. Then there is the Competition version that earns 30 additional horses and so arrives to the fateful 510hp mentioned a few lines above, always managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission, assisted by an M active differential on the rear axle, which allows the four-wheel drive to manage the power of the engine on each wheel in order to emphasize the performance side in complete safety.
There are specific M suspensions with electronic control, a generous braking system and the logical possibility to set the gearbox and engine response according to your needs, taking advantage of the urban side of these mid-size SUVs when you do not want to unleash a power that allows a 0-100 kph of 4.2 seconds (4.1 for the Competition). Details in the passenger compartment are almost maniacal, where the sportiness introduced by a wider and more aggressive body, which also features more massive bumpers and more pronounced ribs all over the place, is picked up irrespective of the optional packages through which you can spec your BMW as much as your imagination want. In a few words, we want one at all costs!
