Can A Motorbike Ever Replace Your Car?
Can a motorbike ever replace a car?
It’s a question you may have considered during your years of driving, especially after noticing the ease at which motorcyclists get around.
But should you? Or is it better to keep hold of your car instead? You don’t have to make the decision straight away, of course. If you can make your car last longer, this might not be a choice you need to make. Still, if the temptation is there, let’s look at the pros and cons of getting a motorbike.
Getting A Motorbike
There are advantages to owning a motorbike.
For one, your daily commute will be a lot easier. As you will have the opportunity to weave in and out of standing traffic, you will have little trouble getting to and from work during rush hour.
In terms of fuel, motorbikes are cheaper to run too. They use less fuel than cars so you wouldn’t have to top up on a too regular basis. Of course, you would need to conserve fuel as you would in your car. This means no riding erratically and going beyond the speed limit, as you would burn more fuel if you did. But if you were safe and sensible, you would make savings as a motorcyclist.
Motorbikes are generally easier to maintain too. The parts on a bike are easy to reach so you wouldn’t have to dig deep under a bonnet to find them. Replacement parts are also easy to source. Online stores such as CTA Powersports sell everything from the latest Kenda motorcycle tyres for your bike to oil filters, spark plugs, and a range of other accessories. So you should have little trouble getting what you need.
And should you take your bike to a garage, you will normally be charged less for labor costs than the car price equivalent. This is because there is a lot less effort to take bikes apart to repair them.
Any other advantages? Well, they are easier to park than cars for one thing, as they need less space. And you also get the cool factor when you’re blazing a trail down the motorway.
So, what about the cons? Well, the biggest one is safety. You are more vulnerable when on a bike and this is why, according to statistics, bike riders are more likely to have an accident than car drivers. And practically, a bike is no good if you have a family to transport, as not only are there fewer seats but there is less luggage space too.
Should you replace your car?
Well, it depends on your personal needs, of course. There are advantages to owning a bike, but then again, there are advantages to owning a car. You have more passenger and luggage space and you can still look cool on the roads if you choose your dream car. You can save on insurance too, as due to the risk factors of owning a motorbike, your premium will usually be less if you drive a car.
But here’s the thing. Why opt for one over the other?
If you want a motorbike, you could buy one and still enjoy your car. You would then have the best of both worlds, for all of your particular needs. It’s worth thinking about if you have been tempted to replace your car with a motorbike.
