Cars and Coffee Monaco: Rebel Extravaganza
It is not a Sunday like the others: that of February 21st is a “Cars and Coffee” Sunday, and therefore means that we start from home headed to a meeting between enthusiasts and owners of very special cars, with no limits of years and makes, for spending the next few hours in the company of people who have come from different countries, but that all have the same passion for cars in common. We at Auto Class Magazine bring the Cinquone by Romeo Ferraris, the US edition, which do not intend to pass unnoticed.
Once in Monaco, we are welcomed by the talented and very young organizers, we park the Cinquone between a Gallardo and a Mustang, and we do not even have time to look around, that we meet a lot of friends, also curious to take a look at the peculiar interior of this little pepper, anything but timid. Its massive body kit and livery with brushed paint are absolute protagonists, despite the Monte-Carlo Beach parking lot is full of cars from the likes of Ferrari 458 (Italia and Speciale), Porsche (from the 70s Carrera RS, up to the modern GT3 RS 4.0 and 991), but also rare pieces like a Lotus 2-Eleven, Alpine A110, Lancia Stratos, not one but two SLR McLaren Roadster and Lamborghini Countach, the last ones brought by the great friend and collector Raul Marchisio.
There is time to say goodbye to some friends from “Just Supercars” (check their awesome group page) when Raul introduces me Mrs. Abarth in person, and then another special meeting, the one with the F1 driver Nico Rosberg, and a picture together is a must. I wonder what he thinks about the Cinquone?! There is no rest, it is a continuous excitement, especially when a stratospheric McLaren P1 peeps calling all the attentions on itself. Then, at about 13, lunch together at the Café de Paris, but before that, with a SupercarSafari’s friend (here with his Corvette) and two English boys that have come so far with a beautiful Land Rover Defender, we left some rubber on the streets of the Principality.
Lunch is delicious, but there was no doubt, and the real dessert is represented by the drive that a small group of us had up the winding Route de La Turbie. Enrico’s red Stratos reminds everyone why it is considered one of the undisputed kings of rally and we take this opportunity to test the Cinquone to its fullest potential, noting that despite a modest 1.4cc engine, has never left the exhausts of cars ahead.
The road, the landscape, the cars, but most of all the people made this such a wonderful day, that could not have ended in any other way than with some group shots at the Digue, just before planning the following meeting, for enjoying these pieces of metal the right way, because cars are just that. They are beautiful and noisy fun tools.
Do not miss Auto Class Magazine’s next issue, with the in-depth reviews of the Cinquone by Romeo Ferraris.
