Chevrolet Turns The C8 Corvette Into A Mid-Rear Engined Supercar
It is an epochal passage that of the new generation Corvettes, in fact for the first time the American sports car abandons the traditional front engine layout and marries the philosophy we Europeans like so much. The engine moves backwards, but what Chevrolet manages to keep intact is the ability to be a sports car capable of adapting to every type of situation and maintaining a price tag that in the US will start at around $ 60,000.
The C8 Stingray is extremely angular, its design inspired by that of the F22 and F35 fighters leaves no room for doubt about the aggressiveness of a model that is about to play an important and revolutionary match for its brand and for a host of followers who will no longer have the classic grand tourer design. Now the driver’s seat is advanced – a good 42 cm compared to the previous model – while the care for the passenger compartment continues to grow and tries to keep up with the standards of the old continent. Leather, carbon fiber and even the possibility to choose between three different options for the seats: GT1, GT2 and Sport Competition, the latter being the ideal solution for track driving.
Like every self-respecting sports cars, what really matters will revolve around performance and in this case the Corvette C8 Stingray promises to exploit a frame made up of aluminum elements and lightweight materials panels, in order to guarantee the necessary handling to unleash the 6.2-liter V8. This is able to deliver 495 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque via an 8-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox. Design may not be surprising in terms of originality, but the commitment put into the project and the specifications suggest that there will soon be another protagonist in the supercars’ pit.
