After the second edition of the Gentlemen’s Run, I do not think I will have no second chance and I’ll have to make room in the garage to welcome an historic car of my own. The passion that we breathed Sunday, July 24 in Barolo was palpable in the air, and the event was a success, thanks to a recipe that wanted to keep limited the number of participants, allowing us to offer to them full attention. The Cellars of Marchesi di Barolo have been the icing on the cake, thanks to an exceptional welcome and a dinner nothing short of superb, but the main ingredient were those classic wheels that have studded the dreams of our parents, and that we brought for a walk in the beautiful Langhe.
The pleasure of driving with the top down, to hear all those mechanical sounds that on modern cars are seen as flaws, to savor the smell of petrol, oil, and that magical feeling of driving a piece of history, something special, alive – they are all sensations that only a vintage car can convey. Never mind if we’re dealing with a comfortable sedan, a sinuous spider or an aggressive mid-engined two-seater (did someone say Stratos?), each and every “old lady” has a long story to tell and Sunday wrote a new chapter in its scrapbook.
All of this is fantastic, unique, magical. All of this has been the 2016 Gentlemen’s Run.
