Three days later and I can still hear the smell of massacred rubber, overheated brakes and the deafening ensemble of engine revving up as they pinch the red line. And then exhausts crackling, those pebbles that bounce on the underbody and then all over again, as if this sort of fanatic driving ritual captured every bit of your brain and in those moments you had no eyes but for the road ahead, that legendary Col de Turini that awaits us every year and keeps intact emotions that never fade. The climb to the top of the most famous rally mountain has gathered spirited drivers who have tortured every bend and attacked every kilometer of the 199 of the trip, leaving their signature on the hot asphalt, from La Turbie to the Col du Saint-Martin and finally the Colle della Lombarda, which surprisingly opened a window on a dense wall of fog, enough to refresh the spirits before the final stop at the location set for light lunch. The fifth edition of the Col de Turini Tour ended with a non-measurable amount of burnt petrol, but with joy in the heart, because it has been a day of celebration for the over fifty road racers who defied the hill and returned home certain to have satisfied (at least for this day) their desire to throw themselves into the stomach of a twisted road. Three days later I still hear the roar of those V8s and I know that within each of those who took part in this adventure, this melody will echo for a long time to come.
