CORMET DE ROSELEND
Connecting the Val d’Isère with the Doron de Beaufort valley, the Cormet de Roselend is one of the most scenic road that can be found across the entire Alpine arc. However, almost touching two thousand meters (the summit is located at 1,968 m) this should not be tackled as one would do with one of the most traditional alpine giants, since the roadway is mostly narrow – especially in its first bit – and even if it is in good condition, the harsh winter season could leave some marks on the road surface.

Location: Bourg-Saint-Maurice – Beaufort (FRA)
Type: panoramic road
Length: 40 km
Elevation: 1,968 m

Taking into consideration the start of the climb from east, you leave Bourg-Saint-Maurice behind and soon enter the dense vegetation that a few kilometers later leads to one of the topical points of the entire itinerary: the 10 switchbacks that one after the other twists near La Croix. The D902 then continues faster and at times wider, focusing heavily on the panoramic factor offered by the road that plunges into the Vallée des Chapieux. At the top there is plenty of space to stop and take advantage of the numerous hiking or mountain biking trails, while the journey by car continues west, passing a couple of refuges and chalets, which nevertheless deserve another useful stop in order to savor the best of the atmosphere here. A few more bends and on the beautiful shores of the Lake de Roselend you can admire the Chapelle, and then enjoy a few more turns thus reaching the final destination in Beaufort.
