CORNICHE DE L’ESTEREL
Also known as Corniche d’Or, the Corniche de l’Esterel should not simply be considered as a beautiful road, but as a wonderful place where the crystalline blue of the sea and the sky are combined with the reddish color of the Massif de l’Esterel. It is the combination of these vivid colors that together with the curvilinear road that leads from Frejus – just a few kilometers from St. Tropez – to Cannes, offer a driving experience that is impossible to forget. As this is after all the coastal road that runs along the sea for about fifty kilometers through some of the most renowned seaside resorts in the region, it can happen to find traffic and it is therefore good to opt for a start at first lights of dawn or close to sundown.
Location: Saint Raphael – Théoule sur Mer
Type: panoramic road
Length: 30 km
Back to the road, the Corniche manages to earn a special place in the preferences of every driver thanks to its amazing colors, but the fun factor commonly offered by a large amount of curves is not forget here. Stop areas have been appropriately set up to allow to fully connect with the place and an honorable mention goes to the Pointe de l’Esquillon, the Cap Roux and the Cap du Dramont et l’Ile d’Or. It is impossible to choose which is the most scenic point of the itinerary and it is precisely the fact of having more than one absolute protagonist that makes the Corniche d’Or one of the most scenic roads in the world, often compared to the Via Aurelia in Italy, or to the Pacific Coast Highway in California, USA.
