Corvette E-Ray: Here Comes the All-Wheel-Drive Hybrid

Corvette’s epochal turning point does not end with having placed the engine in mid-rear position, but the C8 continues to amaze for what many see it as a simple Europeanization, but which actually is the best way to offer its customers and the many new ones a car that boasts high-performance in any condition. Positioning itself (almost) halfway between the Stingray and the Z06, the E-Ray inherits the generous widened shapes from the latter, combining the 495-hp 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 with an electric unit (161 hp) that brings the total output to 643 horsepower. In this case, the small battery pack should not be considered so much for use in Stealth mode (i.e. only electric) since it guarantees a range of just 5 km – even if at a maximum speed of 70 kph – but rather as a boost for the good old petrol one and above all due to the traction provided to the front axle.

This translates into a refined handling for uneven and slippery surfaces or less experienced drivers with a heavy right foot, all despite the differences with the previous generation having already given the C8 an exquisitely European handling. Performance in line with such a mechanical package, i.e. a 0-100 kph in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of just over 300 kph. Like its sisters, the E-Ray is available with a Coupe and Convertible body (with the traditional Targa configuration), with prices starting from €174,900 and €181,900 respectively.
