“After a brief stint with a 993 Carrera 4, in 2008 I fulfilled my dream of buying this 993 Turbo by a person, who decided to sell it because he was never using it. Negotiations were very quick, after putting on the deck and inspecting it with a mechanic expert in Porsche, checking matching frame and engine, service book, bills, etc., I unplugged the fateful check and I took her in my garage.
It was love at first sight and after several years I must say that every time I look at that or driving it is like the first day.
The excitement I feel when I look at his smooth and aggressive lines at the same time, but especially when I turn the key, strictly on the left, is indescribable. The 993 Turbo is a genuine performer in many points of view; it can be sly and docile in traffic, as devilish when turbochargers push to the maximum. The turbo lag of the previous 911 is a distant memory and the all-wheel drive ensures incredible traction on all types of road surfaces.
Torque is monstrous and 80% of it is available already around 2000 rev/min aided by the small diameter of the K16. You might think that driving this Turbo is just a thing for a few but it is not; taking it to the limit is very difficult if you are not proper driver, ok, but it’s much easier than the previous models and the new multilink rear suspensions (introduced on the 993 model in 1993) make the rear more stable and easy to control.
We have to remember the overhanging engine because if you forgive that while driving hard, you could find yourself in a rather unpleasant situation.
My passion for Porsche in general, especially for the “air cooled”, led me to buy also a 964 C2, but the 993 Turbo is and will always remain in my heart, also because I wanted to bring it back in perfect condition both for mechanical and cycling, performing many works of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance.”
