Driving Is A Way Of Life
Where Did I spent my last weekend? Driving, of course. And now everyone starts to think I’m crazy, given that almost every day and for most of the day itself, my office is represented by a car. The truth is that it is not just a job, not even fun, but a proper lifestyle. That’s why we decided, along with two of our photographers and a restricted number of friends and colleagues, to spend a weekend by grinding well over 300km of mountain passes, between France and Italy. We gathered in the cool and relaxing Bardonecchia to have a refining briefing in front of a tasty dinner and the following morning, after spending a night at 1930m of altitude (at the Hotel Jafferau), we set off towards Briancon along the Col de l’Echelle. Main stage was then the climb up the Col d’Izoard, where the 270hp of the car we have chosen, the new PeugeotSport 308 GTI, seemed halved because of the altitude.
I drove and played with one of the most spectacular hot hatches currently for sale and so we drove up the Col de Vars, before facing the Col de Larche coming back in Italy. During these kilometers, and taking the opportunity to blast on different hairpins and turns, I put the enfant terrible to the ultimate test, and it responded promptly to all of my provocations (do not miss the full review on the upcoming ACM issues), but what filled more my heart has been the chance to share a seemingly standard working weekend with a group of exceptional people, colleagues, friends, companions of this long journey that we call life. As I always say, just choose the right path and life will smile at you.
