Family’s Treasure
“When daughters arrive, for Angelo it is time to decide: bye bye to the spider, that cant’ carry four people. But passion is hatching, awakens after almost half a century and is supported by the son in law, lover of “otherwise young” cars and motorcycles. Time to start the research, once done, the deal is reached quickly, the goal soon becomes to reach levels of excellence … the steering wheel is not original, the seats have been “improved” with those of the Fiat 124, the body is refreshed, wheels , chrome profiles, and so on with the long list that every fan knows well. Small problem: to do a good job you need the experts! Fortunately, there are plenty in the area: Enzo, enthusiastically puts his experience at disposal, Mimmo know where to put his hands, Pino brings the body to the splendor it deserves. In 2000, finally, the ASI certified the reached goal with the Gold Plate, all are happy. Giulietta goes out a little, but she is admired and acknowledged: stands out with her blue color, the perfect interior, the sound of yesteryear. Angelo brings her around for a few meetings, including the Ferrari Meet in Celle Ligure, always receiving appreciation for the work done to the car; then can’t resist to the call of the great gathering for the Giulietta 50th Anniversary, at Monza, in 2004. A group of fanatics passes from hand polishing 10 square centimeters of the body, to proudly admire a perfect chrome, from the maniacal care for insignificant details for the uninitiated, to the explosion of an extreme competitiveness, from the third gear pulled to the utmost, to brakings at the limit, and beyond the limit itself! But how do you not “push” at Monza? The two Lesmo corners invite to floor towards the Ascari, heading to the Parabolica, which requires absolute attention and then flat out on the endless straight and that God helps us good when you have to go hard on the brake (no, there is not brake assistance…) in order to come out from the first chicane. The evening Gala keeps track of the good-natured scolding by the organizers to all participants – we have exaggerated, too fast, too fierce! but … we did not driving peaceful citycars, we were at the wheel of the Giulietta and we had to be up to that. –
Unfortunately, Angelo left us, just a few months later, despite his love for life and his enthusiasm; I do not remember him for what he did for a car, he left a very different legacy imprinted in principles and wisdom. But it’s deeply nice that the cover of the Giulietta states his name on the driver side, the right one”.
