Fast & Furious In Qatar
The GT3 991 series represents the fifth incarnation of the sporty German two-seater. In recent months, we’ve driven it plenty of times, and any excuse seems good to be back once again to slide our bottom in those Alcantara and leather seats with their distinctive contrast stitching.
Lethal weapon between the curbs, capable of disintegrating the “Green Hell” in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds, the GT3 is however also able to take you to the office or, if desired, to the grocery store (always assuming that you don’t intend to buy food for the whole week). Its ability to be suitable to each situation, with that eternal Porsche look, but here even more muscular and loud, able to conceal true supercar performance, make it once again unique. It is impossible not to love it and who cares if the Company had to recall them for engine problems. The moment you turn the key to the left of the steering wheel, engage first gear of its dual-clutch automatic transmission, the whole world seems to be moving in slow motion.
The 3.8cc pushes like hell and its grip seems doesn’t care about the laws of physics; you struggle to believe that suddenly you’ve become so good at managing a 475-hp beast that unleashes all its violence on the rear wheels. Rear axle which, in addition to discharge to the ground the 439Nm of torque, facilitates handling by steering in the opposite direction of the corner while traveling at high speed, or in the same direction of the front wheels, when maneuvering. The central dual exhaust emits the classic roar that any Porsche fan would recognize also with eyes closed: a mixture of scrap metal, hum and gurgle of a magic potion, that doesn’t intend of being moved from behind the rear axle.
Beautiful, low, wide, fast, very fast indeed and with an impressive grip and handling, the GT3 is one of the absolute protagonists, everywhere it goes. Then, in red, as the one owned by our friend Nasser Bin Ali Al-Thani (member of the Al-Thani Royal family), pierces the screen, the pages of the magazine and the eyes of the beholder. It is a diva and as the best Marylin Monroe, should be admired and treated as such. Unlike a Hollywood star, however, it can also show that it can become familiar with the rev limiter and as many drifts as those that tomorrow will take you straight to your tire dealer.
We shared a few words with a big fan of sports cars and supercars that, like us, is madly in love with the GT3 and by the way he uses it every day, confirming that this special 911 is able to get anywhere.
Nasser, hello and thank you for being with us.
Your cars passion is easily noticeable, just as your love for the GT3. But what was your first sports car?
Hello to you guys. My first sport car, the one that finally welcomed me into this world of horses and noise, was a Mercedes SL55 AMG, which I purchased in 2005.
And your favorite?
I like a lot of different models, but if I were to tell you one in particular, I would say the Maserati GranTurismo.
The features of the 991 GT3 that you love most?
It is beautiful and I love driving it on track days.
Where would you like to drive this car? Is there one place in particular?
Yes, of course. More than one: Losail International Circuit, near Doha, here in Qatar, but also at the Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi and of course in its most famous playground, the Nürburgring.
