Ferrari 296 Speciale | News
Ferrari unveils the 296 Speciale, a new mid-rear-engined plug-in hybrid berlinetta that sets the new benchmark for driving nirvana. Heir to a prestigious lineage of special versions (Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale and 488 Pista), this model takes the agility and reactivity of the 296 GTB to the extreme, while introducing a remarkable sense of intuitiveness and readiness.

The 296 Speciale’s hybrid engine delivers a maximum power of 880 hp, 50 more than the GTB, setting a new record for rear-wheel drive Ferraris. This increase has been achieved thanks to a 700 hp (+37 hp) V6 twin-turbo internal combustion engine that adopts solutions derived from the 296 Challenge and an electric motor boosted to 180 hp with a new “extraboost” mode. The eight-speed DCT transmission benefits from a new logic that uses electric torque to reduce gear shift times.

A distinctive element of the 296 Speciale is its innovative aerodynamics, which increase downforce by 20% compared to the 296 GTB, reaching 435 kg at 250 km/h. Solutions such as the front aero damper, rear vertical fins with side wings and an active spoiler with a new actuation logic (which now includes a Medium Downforce position) contribute to improving stability and performance.

The 60 kg weight reduction compared to the 296 GTB is another crucial aspect, achieved thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and titanium alloys. The weight-to-power ratio thus drops to 1.60 kg/hp, a record value for a rear-wheel drive Ferrari berlinetta. The set-up has been specifically calibrated, with a 5 mm reduction in ride height and a 13% reduction in roll gradient. The car adopts the latest evolution of the ABS Evo controller and dedicated Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires.

The style of the 296 Speciale is inspired by the world of competition, with a more aggressive front characterized by a hollowed-out bonnet and a suspended splitter. The new rear overhang wings and a wider diffuser further underline the bond with motorsport. The passenger compartment benefits from redesigned sound conveyors to enhance the spatiality and harmony of the V6 sound. As you may have guessed, the 296 Speciale will also be available as Aperta, for open-air thrills and performance substantially unchanged compared to the fixed-roof version. For both we have a 0-100 kph in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of over 330 kph.
