Ferrari 499P | Racing Cars
On 29 October 2022, on the occasion of the Finali Mondiali at the Imola racetrack, Ferrari unveils to the world its weapon for the return to the World Endurance Championship. It is called 499P and is the new Le Mans Hybrid racer developed by the prancing horse with a single goal, that of beating every single opponent. Baptized following the traditional Ferrari nomenclature, 499 represents the overall displacement, while P stands for “prototype”, the 499P is powered by a twin-turbo 6-cylinder which combined with an electric unit will ground a total of 680 horsepower using four-wheel drive, a 7-speed sequential gearbox and a weight that slightly exceeds a ton.
To pay homage to the glorious past of the brand there is also a special livery reminiscent of the legendary 312 P of the seventies, also interconnected with the choice for the number 50, one of the most successful ever. Combustion engine in mid-rear position, while the electric one located on the front axle, in order to maintain an optimal weight balance as this alone delivers a maximum power (limited by regulation) of 272 horsepower. There are also countless ad hoc solutions for this prototype, such as lightening, the various aerodynamic appendages and the fact that the engine unit is a load-bearing type and therefore has a real structural function. The world of endurance racing is about to have a new protagonist. Debut scheduled for March 2023.
