Ferrari SF90 Stradale. 1,000-HP First Ever Hybrid Plug-In From Maranello
It’s the SF90 Stradale and officially inaugurates a new era for the prancing horse, thanks to an impressive engineering baggage that consecrates it as the first plug-in hybrid coming out from the factory in Maranello and able to offer performances that make the family hypercar LaFerrari go pale. Pushing the SF90 Stradale we have a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 780 horsepower, which is combined with 3 electric motors, one of which is integrated in the gearbox and the other two that act individually on the front wheels.
The result translates into 1,000 hp for the most powerful street-legal Ferrari in history, able to make use of – among many other things – a latest generation torque vectoring, the so-called Rac-e (Regolatore Assetto Curva Elettrico) on the front axle and a whole series of devilries that will delight those who love to explore the periodic table of available electronic devices. Simply put, the SF90 Stradale accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.5 seconds, reaches 200 per hour in 6.7 seconds and touches 340 kph of top speed without problems. The driver will then have the new Hybrid and Performance functions available, which offer an automatic management of the ratio between the combustion engine and the electric units, while in eDrive mode (electric only) it will be possible to drive up to 25 kilometers, with a top speed of 135 kph.
When we talk about hybrids we must take into account a logic increase in weight – in this case of 270 kg – so Maranello opted for a special multi-material aluminum and carbon-fiber chassis, able to decrease the total mass of the car and stop the scale at 1,570 kg. In the passenger compartment we have room for a renewed and futuristic environment, in which the 16-inch curved screen stands out, while on the central tunnel we find a beautiful tribute to the past, with the gate for the selection of the gears that recalls the models of a few decades ago, introduction that will also be resumed on all the incoming models of the company. Finally, so to speak, the Assetto Fiorano represents the most extreme side of the concept of performance, thanks to Multimatic shock absorbers, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires with softer compound and an overall lightening of about thirty kilos, enough to make LaFerrari’s lap times look obsolete on the home track (Fiorano).
