Gordon Murray T.50 | News
It was 1993 and Gordon Murray changed the meaning of supercar forever. His McLaren F1, even after years and after an inevitable technological and engineering development, still embodies the quintessence of a car designed and created for putting the driver at the center of a world made of all those possible equations capable of elevating the concept of performance, not only in terms of pure speed, but of overall thrust, one of the fundamental points of the philosophy of the engineer. One of the characteristics that has always distinguished the F1 is in fact also taken up on Murray’s new creation called T.50, the central driving position, slightly advanced compared to the two seats on the sides.
It will arrive in 2022 and will cost around 2.36 million pounds (excluding taxes) and is ready to write a new chapter in the exclusive world of hypercars. The chassis and body are made of carbon fiber for a weight absurdly reduced to just 957 kg, which also confirms the limited dimensions of just 116 cm in height, 435 in length and 185 in width, carbon-ceramic brake and three aluminum pedals. Exactly, 3 pedals, because the T.50, despite adopting a 4-liter naturally aspirated V12 developed with Cosworth, is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. The power output is 663 horsepower at 11,500 rpm, while the maximum torque is 467 Nm at 9,000, with a red line reaching 12,100 rpm. Rear wheel drive with self-locking, of course.
Furthermore, among the aerodynamic extravagances adopted by Gordon Murray we have a rear fan that creates a depression and allows you to press the car on the ground without the need for large spoilers. Aesthetically, the T.50 has a clean timeless line, with references to the glorious F1, but traits that make it perfectly capable of battling with the increasingly fierce contemporary competition. Also this time, like 27 years ago, we are not just facing an exceptional car, but we’re in front of an event that will change the world of supercars once again.
