GRAND NAVES
Grand Naves is a village located at an altitude of 1,316 meters, in the sunniest portion of Tarentaise, a winter tourist destination and an ideal location for a bit of summer relax. Actually, what matters to us is not just the small town, but rather the way to get there – or should we say the two ways. In fact, starting from Grand Coeur, a few kilometers from Moutiers, we suggest tackling the complete loop which includes what we like to define as a genuine indigestion of switchbacks. The south-west side, just over 13 km long, is the ideal one to start and really realize the type of road you’re about to drive.
Location: Grand Naves (FRA)
Type: panoramic road
Length: 28 km
Elevation: 1.316m
In fact, after the first few kilometers an absurd succession of very tight hairpin bends begins, which seem to have been created especially for those who are not satisfied with a simple road full of exotic curves. The section must be approached with caution, especially due to the narrow width of the carriageway and with the awareness that it is not one of those roads that involve a hectic race to the destination, but rather a way to live a driving experience similar to that of Montvernier. The south-east side – which we recommend as the second half of the drive – is slightly longer (about 15 km) with a road with an almost similar curvilinear conformation, with mainly wider bends (even if slightly) and even more capable of making you taste that flavor of a rural corner that seems left almost completely uncontaminated.
