A week ago I anticipated the fact that part of the driving experiences I cherish the most revolve around down to earth cars and if I look back, the one that still has a soft spot in my heart is the Seat Leon ST Cupra. I’ve driven the 290-hp estate for a something like a month, during Summer of 2016 and I’ve been able to crunch a huge amount of miles in it, driving through the panoramic roads above St. Tropez, to the Italian motor valley in Modena, still enjoying motorway drives as you’d do on a proper grand tourer.
Now, 3 years have passed and despite I’ve driven hundreds of more powerful and engaging cars, the ST Cupra represents a perfect combination of a sports car that meets the everyday needs of a family, with an extraordinary comfortable ride that can turn its soul into a sharp machine, unloading its 290 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Yes, you could argue it’s still a front wheel drive, but for what matters, the best FWD estate I’ve ever driven, with a quick gearbox and a chassis that only wait to be spanked on some twisted and curvy road. Just like then, if you ask me to drive again a car has been at our office in 2016, it would be this one.
