Lake Misurina
The town of Auronzo di Cadore is home to just over 3,000 inhabitants, but its territory spreads for several kilometers, up to and including the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo, authentic symbol of the mountain range of the Dolomites. The itinerary that we suggest not to exclude from your visit to this splendid and unique mountain area is the road that leads from Auronzo di Cadore to Lake Misurina, located in the village of the same name. In fact, if the road is a traditional Alpine route, mainly in good condition and with a width that guarantees a smooth drive, it is probably one of those cases in which the destination is even more exciting than the journey itself.
Location: Misurina (ITA)
Type: point of interest
Arriving on the shores of Lake Misurina, just 25 km from Auronzo di Cadore and just over ten minutes from the center of Cortina d’Ampezzo, we are literally captured by the splendid postcard image that the lake creates with the mountains around and with the characteristic hospice right in front of the Sorapiss massif. The view is truly priceless, especially because with the arrival of autumn and being 1,754 meters above sea level, you can even have a light veil of snow to make everything even more impressive.
Something this place shares with the entire Dolomite area is the possibility of encountering heavy traffic, or in any case not being able to have a landscape devoid of other tourists and cars or caravans. For this reason it is advisable, challenging the always unpredictable weather conditions, to come here during the months of June or late September/early October, obviously excluding weekends.
