Lotus Eletre | 100% Electric Hyper-SUV. The Future According To Lotus.
On Thursday 15 September afternoon, the exclusive setting of Garage Italia Milano hosted Lotus Cars for a very special presentation. To tell the truth there were more than one single Lotus on display, as we were able to admire the exaggerated Evija, the new Emira and Elise Artioli’s Elise (click here for our interview), the one who started the myth of one of the most representative performance cars ever, arriving today with her 240 Sport Final Edition. We were invited in Milan for another kind of car to tell the truth, in fact the queen of the day is called Eletre and it is the brand new 100% electric Hyper-SUV made by the Hethel company.
An unexpected step for the brand’s purists, which not only introduces a hitherto unexplored segment like that of SUVs, but a zero-emission propulsion and cutting-edge technology that aim to place Lotus on an even higher level and expand its audience with a radically different proposal compared to the sports car you initially think of when talking about Lotus. Waiting to get our hands on the Emira, the one who is gonna take care of keeping driving involvement alive, we have thus become familiar with this 5.1 meters long colossus with angular lines that does not hide the intention to standout, thanks to a futuristic and extremely aggressive look that goes hand in hand with a luxurious and forward-looking interior, which uses synthetic and eco-sustainable fabrics.
On a dynamic level, the Eletre will be marketed with units starting from 600 horsepower and batteries of at least 100 kWh that exploit a 350 kW charging capacity able to regenerate 400 km in just 20 minutes. The estimated average distance should therefore be around 600 km, as long as you do not exploit the incredible power offered and then shoot from 0 to 100 kph in less than 3 seconds and reach 260 per hour (electronically limited). The Eletre will also be the first car to use LIDAR technology, which will make driving aids highly effective. We really like how it looks and the engineering-technological package as well. It is useless to turn up your nose, the ways of the future require electrons and even if we never expected that the great-granddaughter of the legendary Lotus Seven would be a big electric SUV, we are confident that it will do well for the brand and for what comes next.
