Mercedes-Maybach Pullman: Blue Blood
MERCEDES-MAYBACH PULLMAN
Blue Blood
Words by Tommaso Mogge
In case you are a sort of State’s president, an important member of a government or you have blue blood in your veins, this is the car that could accompany you to a gala dinner without lacking the exclusiveness of your beautiful home, it’s the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman, the latest incarnation of the most extreme Teutonic luxury. As you well know, the Maybach brand has merged with that of the three-pointed star that until a few years ago joined the mission marking that step that distanced a great sedan like the S-Class from the most pompous and regal Maybach 57 and 62, also in various declinations including the Landaulet, which even offered the possibility of opening the rear portion of the roof.
Faithful to the platform of the latest generation S-Class and with logical references in terms of design, the top of the luxury of the Mercedes-Maybach venture is represented by the Pullman version of the S600, about 6 and a half meters of opulence on wheels. Updated at the beginning of the year, the Pullman has a new front grille, new 20-inch wheels and the option to opt for a two-tone body, choosing for example from a simple and sober gray or the most sought-after brown mahogany or deep sea blue. Of course there is also a way to customize the interior, which ultimately is the focal point of a car, in this case a limousine, which will be driven by a chauffeur and puts at the center of its microcosm a pampered and lucky owner. The space on board is disarming and each seat, including those that can be operated in front of the main rear passengers, is arranged individually, so as to allow an almost infinite possibility of adjustments to the rear compartment, soundproofed and equipped with every imaginable comfort. Maybach emphasizes that the front and rear areas are so divisible that it is possible to activate the stereo at high volume, without one being disturbed by the other.
While you will be comfortably seated on generous leather armchairs, enjoying a massage and checking the emails from one of the on-board monitors, complete with all kinds of connectivity, the driver will not be relegated to a boring role, as he will lead the steering wheel of a mammoth 6-liter 12 cylinders biturbo able to ground 630 horses and 1,000Nm of torque. An exorbitant power figure distributed on a mass of about 3 tons and a wheelbase that does not make the Maybach a performance car, of course, but still enough to move this house on wheels in discrete fluency. 6.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph, for example, will put you on the road for the following meeting. Last but small detail, the Pullman costs about half a million euros and if you have some kind of enemies, Mercedes-Maybach offers the Guard version, armored and equipped with bulletproof glasses all around.
