Mercedes SL500 (R129)
Do not be fooled by its price, however, very attractive. The SL R129 is a key vehicle for modern motoring, so much that despite minimal updates covered more than a decade, from 1989 to 2001. In other words, we can define it as a real highlander, especially if you think about how fashions changed in the world during those years, but the ’89 Super Light has brought with it a whole host of innovations, which gradually were going to improve. We must not forget the passive safety and all driving assistance systems, such as a device that regulated the suspension at higher speeds, or the famous roll-over bar that in a few milliseconds turned up saving the occupants, during roll over. A lot of passive safety, but also a lot of comfort and a range of engines to choose from; we opted for the V8 SL500 from 306hp and 460Nm of torque, available with 5-speed automatic transmission and that allowed to grind kilometers without the slightest effort. Reliability was not its strong point, and does not offer a thoroughbred sports car handling, the weight is felt and the chassis may now seem more than obsolete, but one of the things that is absolutely not changed is the freshness of its line and that top of the range taste that you feel once you climb at the wheel and turned the key. Spending less than you would buying a Panda, you’ll take home a piece of history of the three pointed star. For us this is a good deal!
