Michelin Pilot Sport 4: Hooked To The Ground
Let’s say you have only one car, but one of those that can accompany you from home to work throughout the week and then, on weekends, give some track-day fanatic a hard time. We often call ‘em hot-hatches, but if you are dealing with the Civic Type-R, the drama of our words will play an even more convincing role. As the new Honda is able to do everything very well, the same applies to the choice of the right tires, after all you won’t want to risk a heart attack in case of rain. The most adequate answer is called Pilot Sport-4, a model that Michelin is proud of and that sweeps all doubts about the ability that your new rubber can have satisfying needs that could seem to be the opposites, like everyday driving and furious driving as well, on the track or suitable for attacking a few mountain passes.
The ultimate test happened in the shape of our test with the new Honda Civic Type-R, a nothing short of crazy sports car that charges the front wheels to ground the 320 horsepower of its V-Tec 2-liter turbo. It is not only thanks to the mechanical self-locking differential and the super-fine chassis of the Japanese hatchback, but the tires chosen by the Company is not accidental. At this point, the Michelin Pilot Sport-4 deploy their innate versatility, offering comfort and safety during a traditional use, then biting the asphalt when you call into question the most wild side of a compound capable of a grip difficult to imagine until you experience it in first person. The reduced shoulder does not ruin its silent running while cruising in comfort mode and the 245 fit perfectly on the 20-inch wheels of the Type-R, also using the protective rim, useful in parking lots.
