My Col de Turini In An A45 AMG

I’ve lost the number of times I’ve driven up the Col de Turini, but what is left unchanged is the thrill of emotions that creep inside me when I leave the Riviera behind and start to clamber along that snake, almost as if I try to climb the guts of an infernal creature, in a hectic run against the beats of my heart.
For the 2017 edition of the Col de Turini Tour I was able to challenge the famous mountain pass with the new Mercedes A45 AMG, equipped with a 2.0 turbo grounding 381 horsepower and 475Nm of torque, which can already be used at only 2.250 revs. During the drive and days later my feelings were identical, noting that this is probably the best car I could ever choose in terms of driving feel and performance. It ranged from one bend to the other with impeccable traction, biting the asphalt with the four wheels and pointing the nose exactly where I wanted – even the brakes were stunning, powerful and without a bit of fade, while for the fun side, not having to bend the back at each hairpin, I liked the astonishing grip, the lack of body roll and the possibility of opening the gas in the very middle of the corner, without the slightest uncertainty.
The Turini has become the ultimate test bench for us at Auto Class, where along its many miles of slow corners and faster stretches, a car is literally bare, showing its weaknesses and strengths. The A45 AMG has proven to be a real weapon ready for nuclear warfare, with an exhaust that creates addiction and an incredible ease in achieving performance that I rarely found on a sports car, especially of this segment. Personally, among the many highlights of the 2017 edition of the tour, the smallest AMG in production has certainly been one of the most interesting and I look forward to be able to come back at the steering of an A45 soon, which is also perfectly suited for a city life. The smallest AMG is one of the best, despite “missing” 4 cylinders compared to the cousins of the brand.
