Off-Roading Is Not Our Classic Routine
For an entire day I had to forget everything I had learned about racing lines, apexes, oversteer and the rest. If you are wondering what on Earth is happening, I immediately delete any doubts ‘cause I’ve only decided to try the thrill of off-roading driving a 4×4. We took a Jeep, the new Renegade, that having the chassis of the 500L might seem anything but a real off-road, and we went looking for some dirty path, initially less demanding and then more and more difficult, so as to become a real testing situation.
A sort of test for both, as my best experience in off-road so far was to go on to a curb when parking, but I have to say that I enjoyed that. Moving centimeter by centimeter, with the engine idling, and sometimes even without my feet on the pedals, thanks to the various assistive devices for downhill segments, has been a new experience, amply rewarded when we’ve reached the end of the path, placed the Jeep in the shade of some trees and enjoying a picnic lost in the nature, something I was missing for years. You never stop learning and I found that even off-road knows how to entertain, even when speed becomes the least of your priorities. This does not mean that I would trade my sports car for a 4×4, but I do not deny that I’d like to enrich a few weekends with a picnic in good company and a tasty barbecue in the woods.
Soon on Auto Class, the full review about the new Renegade, tested our own way!
