Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4: Pure Driving Pleasure
We rubbed the magic lamp and our wishes have taken shape. Porsche has given birth to two models that once again have the purest driving pleasure at the center of their microcosm. The big news are that they are both derivatives of the 718 series – and therefore both Boxster and Cayman – but abandoning the 4-cylinder turbo, at least for the occasion. They are the 718 Boxster Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 and are all we would have hoped to see again in the Porsche family.
Both based on the turbocharged counterparts, have instead a naturally aspirated 6-cylinder that delivers 420 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque between 5,000 and 6,800 rpm, able to push up to 300 kph and touch 100 per hour (starting from zero) in just 4.4 seconds. But it’s not all a question of performance, because when it comes to driving emotions, the first things that come to mind are the involvement and the drivability. In this case both can count on a 6-speed manual transmission, a new concept of aerodynamics with a 50% reduced load, above all thanks to the new exhaust system, a musical instrument that accentuates every decibel and elevates the sensory nirvana attainable at the steering wheel.
Each of them has logical references to the previous models, with the characterizations of the 718 series as well. For the Boxster Spyder we therefore have a canvas top and an active spoiler which intervenes starting from 120 per hour, while the Cayman GT4 has a fixed rear wing, for the benefit of a significantly increased downforce. Lower than 30 mm, both can be equipped with a carbon-ceramic braking system and high-performance tires developed specifically for these models.
