Porsche 911: The Legend Continues
Porsche 911: The Legend Continues
“Pantha rei” (Everything flows), said Heraclitus. And Porsche seems to agree with him, presenting the eighth generation of the 911, promptly baptized 992. It seems like yesterday that we have welcomed the most generous lines of the 991 and the turbocharged turn of the 991.2 and instead we are already here talking about a “whole new” model. The 992 updates its look, emphasizes its desire for performance and presents an upgrade to the turbocharged 3-liter flat-six, which unleashes 23 horses more than the previous version. Initially we will deal with the inevitable 8-speed PDK g’box, but the excellent 7-speed manual will join the gang soon. Both the models with only rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive will have an acceleration on the 0-100 kph to dwarf far more conspicuous supercars, respectively with something like 3.5 and 3.4 seconds. And there’s more, because opting for the Sport Chrono Package still cuts two tenths of a second.
There is great attention to the safety factor, including the Night Vision Assist system and the new LED headlight, redesigned just like the front and rear bumpers. In addition, confirming the rear-located engine faithful to the history of the 911, the 992 series presents one of the most striking aesthetic innovations, with a full-LED horizontal profile that unites the lights at the back. The car is wider, more pressed to the ground and more glued to the asphalt, also thanks to the generous 20-inch wheels at front and 21 inches at the rear. As for the interior we have a clear inspiration to the 911 of the 70s, especially with regard to the great use of straight lines, while behind the wheel there is a digital display. At the center of the dashboard is the large 10.9-inch touch screen and a much less confusing console than before.
The 992 promises to maintain the same driving involvement, but simplifying its use thanks to the great versatility and its 2+2 seats, which make it a sports car that do not intend to stay in the garage waiting for the weekend. To get one home you must pay at least € 123,999 for the Carrera S, or € 132,051 for the Carrera 4S.
