Everyone loves road movies, especially if set in the States and perhaps with a few decades on their back. The film here is dated 1975 and is titled “Race With The Devil” and collects without half measures all the ingredients expected in a thriller movie that follows the desperate escape of two couples of friends, involuntary witnesses to a murder that took place during a satanic rite. It all begins with a long-awaited vacation, a luxurious RV and an impromptu stop in a seemingly peaceful place. Too bad that in the middle of the night, a sudden fire and frightening screams drag them into a long nightmare.
TITLE: Race With The Devil
YEAR: 1975
DIRECTED BY: Jack Starrett
LENGHT: 1h 28 min
GENRE: thriller
Peter Fonda and Warren Oates are the convincing protagonists of a film that has a fast pace as its strong point and that, without upsetting the basic concept of the plot, culminates in the final chase, where to great surprise we find a gigantic camper as the main vehicle, aspect which adds that need for shelter, especially when you feel hunted by the whole world. This is a brand new Vogue 32′ Villa Grande (for 1975, ed), which unlike what might come to mind when thinking of another famous TV RV – that of “Breaking Bad” – has every conceivable comfort, except something that could keep the two couples out of the eyes of the mysterious sect. “Race With The Devil” is a well-assembled thriller that has aged much better than many other similar movies. Recommended.
