Renault 5 GT Turbo
BUDGET CARS
There is something wicked and so visceral that links us to those “coffin on wheels” of the eighties. Probably the only thing of those years which survived test of times (way better than music and clothes), hot-hatches that used to amuse our older cousins are always a good choice for those who are looking for performance and strong emotions at a good price. The R5 GT Turbo, also called Supercinq, is the little sister of the Turbo Maxi, here with a less extreme look, but with the same pepper-like attitude. Its body was easily distinguishable from the standard version, but the 1.4 116-hp engine had a turbocharger that, once reached 3000 rpm, was going to push you to the seats like no other. In that very moment, it was your time to deal with the steering wheel and enjoy the breath of the turbocharger itself, constantly thirsty of air and speed. Just like you. A curb weight under a ton and the short wheelbase guaranteed an optimal handling, especially through tight corners, even if sometimes could became the ultimate danger for you life. The R5 GT Turbo is this: the quintessence of hot-hatches that, even today, have nothing to envy to modern sports hatchbacks. As a matter of fact, cars like this have that true and roush spirit that has made all of us fall in love with them.
