Renault Megane E-Tech Electric | Preview Drive
Renault is increasingly becoming standard-bearer of electrification and the new Megane E-Tech Electric is a further step in the evolution of the French brand. Under a 4.2 meter long coupe crossover body, with a wheelbase of 2.6 and just 1.5 high, there is in fact a model with an attractive design playing on clean lines and the fluidity of a design granted by a platform which offers the possibility to position the wheels as much as possible towards the outside and make all the profiles of the Megane sinuous and at the same time effective in terms of aerodynamic resistance. In fact, we find retractable door handles both front and rear and the possibility of equipping the car with 18 or even 20-inch wheels.
If the exterior pleases the eye already at a first glance, the passenger compartment immerses in an environment that smells of a higher category, thanks to the use of soft materials and details that increase the sense of pleasure accentuated by a lower seating position compared to any other crossover, thus enhancing its on road behavior. Squared steering wheel and 24” mega display that integrates both the instrumentation in front of the driver and the central display, now equipped with a Google system and therefore fast and extremely precise. The climate controls, on the other hand, remain physical, while families who need extra space on board will be able to stow objects of all kinds in the over 30 liters obtained out of the many compartments scattered throughout the cabin.
The sloping roofline penalizes rear visibility, but the rear-view mirror directly connected to the rear camera comes to the rescue. As for driving aids, there are 26 systems. Being a 100% electric car, we know that the most important aspect is that of the overall mileage, so let’s not delay any longer. The Megane E-Tech Electric is available with two units: the 40 kWh one that promises up to 300 km of range and the 60 kWh one that should reach 470 km. There are two power outputs then, 130 and 218 horsepower, with interesting performance also due to a weight that slightly exceeds a ton and a half, while the electric motor and traction remains at the front of the car. Finally, there are 3 levels of equipment (Equilibre, Techno and Iconic) with prices starting from € 37,100 for the EV40 and € 41,700 for the EV60. After a first taste cruising across beautiful Langhe, we really can’t wait to get back driving and discover all the qualities of the new Megane E-Tech Electric.
