Repo Man | Cinema
Otto is a young rebel always ready to brawl with the world. After losing his job he runs into an eccentric man who involves him in a series of car thefts. For him it is the beginning of a new career in the auto recovery branch, until the time comes to look for a Chevrolet Malibu that is worth much more than you can imagine. Repo Man is an unconventional film that manages to combine action and comedy without however ever being easy to label. It is undoubtedly a movie to be considered for pure entertainment, but in its 90 minutes it actually manages to keep the viewer’s attention high, thanks to the continuous succession of twists and turns and the numerous characters, each of them well characterized, even when they don’t enjoy consistent on screen time.
TITLE: Repo Man
YEAR: 1984
DIRECTED BY: Alex Cox
LENGHT: 1h 32 min
GENRE: action, comedy
Otto becomes a so-called repo man and must therefore travel up and down Los Angeles to impound unpaid cars for the owning company. Thus, a multitude of American sedans and sports cars can be seen, but the absolute protagonist of the film is a 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, an apparently sober sedan which, however, is not worth opening the trunk. It’s up to you to find out why. As for the film, we are sure that it will know how to please you, also thanks to the exceptional performance of Harry Dean Stanton, a sort of mentor for the young Otto. Repo Man should be considered as a crossover between a crime story and a comedy, but it is precisely in its innate ability to bring together exaggerated situations, car chases and memorable lines that manages to bring home unanimous opinions in defining it an 80s classic, full of cars and permeated with an atmosphere that immerses you in the crazy story told by director Alex Cox.
