Ripping Roads In Sardinia With The New Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and 718 Boxster GTS
I am pretty sure that those involved in Sardinia’s urban planning are driving lunatics. You cannot, in the most remote way, remain calm and responsible to the sight of a perfectly smooth road surface, of such a generous roadway and curves that offer you complete visibility on the opposite lane. But that’s not all, what in fact amazed me more about the 400 and plus kilometers driven with Porsche at the press launch of the new 718 Cayman GTS and 718 Boxster GTS was that crazy climb on some of the most tortuous roads of the entire island , interrupted only by endless straights reminding some sort of Autobahn.
To complete this amazingly inviting recipe, the ability to put to the test the GTS versions of the extraordinary 718, which in addition to a makeover that enhances both the exterior and the interior, offer more power, for a total of 365hp and 430Nm of torque with PDK gearbox (420Nm with 6-speed manual), a 10mm lower chassis fitted with PASM, torque vectoring with mechanical self-locking rear differential and improved braking system, with even the possibility of opting for carboceramic disks.
In these two days I used every single moment to test the controversial 718 series, which had given me so much fun a couple of years ago, when I had the chance to throw the Boxster S on the hairpins of the Col de Vence. I started picking a Cayman with PDK and carboceramic brakes, enjoying the following day the wheel of a manual Boxster. The GTS versions are like sharp blades ready to slice the Sardinian roads, proving however to be perfectly able to be driven under any circumstances, on any type of road and above all, for as long as possible […].
