The Big Steal | Cinema
This is one of those cases where an eye-catching poster does its job best, which is to attract the attention of the public. I don’t even remember exactly how I stumbled across the suggestions of some streaming platform, but when I saw that XJ6 painted like a psychedelic dragon, I couldn’t resist. After 1 hour and 39 minutes, I couldn’t wait to shout to the whole world that I had discovered an extraordinary movie, capable of keeping you glued to the screen from start to finish thanks to a simple but in its own way exceptional story.
TITLE: The Big Steal
YEAR: 1990
DIRECTED BY: Nadia Tass
LENGHT: 1h 39 min
GENRE: action, comedy
The protagonist is young Danny, a boy who finally manages to snatch a date from the girl of his dreams. He promises to pick her at the wheel of a Jaguar, which he doesn’t own and that’s how he begins the daring run-up to a car that he can’t afford and which is soon taken away from him by the worst salesman he could meet. A car can do crazy things, but a car and a woman are a lethal combination, especially for our dear Danny. The undisputed protagonist is therefore the Jaguar XJ6 – or we should say the few Jaguar XJ6 (but let’s not reveal too much) – without forgetting the legendary ’64 Nissan Cedric. The Big Steal is a film that is unjustly off the radar, but one that every car enthusiast and more generally of good cinema must absolutely not miss.
